Although I had lived and worked in a small rural town for 67 years, I was beginning to feel isolated. My children had left the area and my friends, due to bereavement or relocation, were dwindling. The sad loss of my wife and companion of almost 60 years caused me to consider the options for my future while I was still mobile and able to care for myself.
My chosen option was to move to Wagga Wagga where I have the company of one of my daughters and her family. In addition, the other family members are geographically closer and have been frequent visitors.
The location of Watermark Retirement Village; close to the C.B.D facilities, yet tucked away in its own quiet sanctuary is an asset itself. On one side of the complex is the view with its gumtrees and birdlife while the other side there are churches of various denominations, all within easy walking distance.
The Watermark team, lead by Di, immediately made me feel welcome and eased the transition. This village infrastructure has made life easier for me as now I enjoy the grounds and gardens without the work and the responsibilities.
At Watermark I have the comfort of the knowledge that it is a secure building. Optional activities are held in the excellent common amenities and there is a restaurant which I confess has become a welcome extension of my kitchen.
Importantly, I have been able to maintain my independence and privacy while having the company of very friendly and agreeable residents. While I do miss aspects of my rural town such as familiar faces when I do my shopping and a beer & raffle night with my mates - all in all the move to Watermark has been a positive one.
